Photocopies, Classroom Supplies, Etc.
There is a photocopier available in the IUPUI/SLIS office, which each instructor is allowed approximately $50 in copying for class materials. If you have anything printed by the IUPUI or Bloomington Printing Departments please forward Melanie Hollcraft (UL 3100, IUPUI) a copy of completed order form.
Additionally, transparencies, colored paper, and other classroom supplies such as white board and overhead markers are available for your use. Please feel free to help yourself and ask if you do not find what you need.
ONCOURSE
ONCOURSE is now being used by many of our instructors. It can be used like a class listserv but has more flexibility. ONCOURSE CL is automatically set up for each class listed on the schedule. Faculty members will be able to see the students registered for their classes approximately three weeks before classes begin; the student themselves will have access to their courses two weeks before classes begin. The Office of Professional Development, Randy Newbrough (317-278-2430) or rnewbrou@iupui.edu is happy to assist you with ONCOURSE CL instructions.
Class Roster
Class rosters may be viewed through ONESTART. www.onestart.iu.edu
Course Reserves
For instructions on using the reserve system at IUPUI please see https://reserves.ulib.iupui.edu/. At this site, you will find information on the electronic reserve system, how to access the system from home, and the forms necessary to place items on reserve.
Outstanding Student Paper
Please submit a copy of one or two student papers or projects to be placed in the SLIS archival records for future accreditation. The student(s) should give permission for this.
Returning Student Papers
Final papers or projects that you tell the students you will return can be done in one of two ways. First, students may give you a self-addressed stamped envelope for mailing the paper to the student. Secondly, you may bring the papers/projects to the SLIS office (UL 3100). We will put them in an envelope for confidentiality and place them in a bin located in the reception area (UL 3100) for the student to pick up. We would need these papers within two weeks after the semester ends.
Course Evaluations
Final course evaluations are used to gather comments and suggestions from students about the strengths and weaknesses of the courses. This information is used for ongoing course revision.
Your course evaluations are to be completed during the next to last or last class meeting. Do let the students know in advance if possible. You should allow about 15 minutes for students to complete their evaluations. You should leave the room while they do this.
Please read the following information to your students before they begin.
- Instructions for blue answer sheet:
- Use No. 2 pencil. Please do not use pen!!
- Print last name of instructor and campus in the NAME section of the answer sheet.
- Print the course number in the IDENTIFICATION NUMBER section.
- Handwritten portion:
- Please do not write on the questionnaire. (Numbers 1-18)
- Please write your confidential remarks for questions 19, 20, and 21.
- The forms will be transcribed then reviewed by the Executive Associate Dean and Dean of SLIS who are responsible for providing feedback and/or consultation.
- Please designate a student in the class who will be responsible for the evaluations. They are to be placed in the enclosed envelope, sealed, and deposited either at the SLIS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE, UL 3100N or the University Library Reference Desk. SLIS-IUPUI staff will collect the envelope the next morning. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact the SLIS office at 278-2375.
Policy On Use of Email as Official Correspondence with Students
At Indiana University, there is an increasing need for fast and efficient communication with currently enrolled students in order to conduct official business at the University. Students tend to communicate extensively through electronic mail. Each student is issued a University network ID and email account for use throughout the time the student is registered for classes at the University. Accordingly, email is an available mechanism for formal communication by the University with students. If a student chooses to forward his/her mail to another email address (AOL, Hotmail, departmental server, etc.), the student's primary campus email address remains the official destination for official university correspondence.
